Livable communities provide safety for their residents and visitors, and they provide options for people to get around in a variety of ways. MnDOT has up to $800K for selected communities to create active transportation plans in 2024 with the help of a consultant.
The goal is to help more people safely walk and bicycle to destinations where they live, work and play. Active transportation plans will analyze existing conditions, engage the community, identify ways to improve infrastructure, and identify policies and programs to encourage active transportation.
This program is available to communities of all types and sizes. Previously selected communities include Mahnomen, Richfield, St. Louis County, Albert Lea, and Saint Paul.
New this year: all selected applicants will also receive planning assistance and installation of a demonstration infrastructure project in their community. Applications are due at 5 p.m. on Thursday, November 30, 2023. Click here for more information.
